Graduation Data

Review the Data
In the 2019 cohort of Chief Leschi Students between 40-49% of students reached graduation. Low graduation rates had been an issue for many years. Seniors were credit deficient and this problem began as far back as Freshman year. Additionally, students were not meeting graduation requirements for proficiency.

Build it.
Based on the data, we knew we needed to protect the 9th-grade transition into high school, improve student academic success, and identify new pathways for graduation. As a result of this analysis, we implemented Freshman Seminar and increased communication with families about grades and attendance. We implemented academic supports like study halls, advisory interventions, and more! We also met with the family of each senior to share exactly what students needed to do to graduate. We began moving these conversations into junior year, and we now have most students on track at the beginning of each year!

Grow it.
For the 2023 cohort, we anticipate a 100% graduation rate for all Chief Leschi students. Students have had zero credit deficiencies since March 9th, 2023, and have met all other graduation requirements. We also have record numbers of students enrolled in colleges and planning for their lives beyond high school.

The Power of Community: PLC
An important part of our data journey has been professional development for staff to learn about the meaningful and intentional collection of data around student learning. We trained staff on the creation of common formative assessments, explicit instruction of skills, and the prioritization of standards. We then developed data collection tools and began meeting weekly in teams to identify action steps based around instructional data. It has been very rewarding to watch as students and staff grow over the last three years, as we have worked to close the achievement gap.
